Along with other local companies, Napp was proud to be supporting the return of the Big Weekend to Parkers Piece in Cambridge on Friday 6th – Sunday 8th of July.
The Big Weekend was part of Cambridge City Council’s Summer in the City programme and featured a diverse range of activities and performances. This year, the Big Weekend coincided with the Olympic Torch coming to Cambridge, and the City Council took the opportunity to showcase all that’s great about Cambridge.
As part of the Saturday evening entertainment, the City Council teamed up with production company SameSky to stage a huge community performance entitled “A Field For Dreams”. The performance brought the North, South, East and West communities of Cambridge together and was the crowning moment of a community arts project that SameSky has been running with schools and community groups around Cambridge throughout the summer. We sponsored the community performance, and also supported the Fun Laboratory; a marquee set up on Parker’s Piece featuring science-based activities for children. Our Science Ambassadors took part by having a stand set up in the marquee. This year, the Science Ambassadors are celebrating the fact that they have been involved in activities and events that have reached over 25,000 students aged between 4 and 18 years in the 7 years since they were established.
Dietmar Leitner, Napp’s Managing Director, said, “We were delighted to sponsor both the Community Spectacular and the Fun Laboratory at The Big Weekend this year. We will celebrate our 30th anniversary on the Cambridge Science Park in 2013, and we feel very proud to be part of this fantastic city, so it was a privilege to support the Northern area in celebrating what’s great about Cambridge. Our sponsorship of the Fun Laboratory is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting science education in local schools and colleges, which we’ve been actively involved with since 2005.”
